Description
A set of 5 Khadag (also known as Khata or Khatag) scarves in red, green, orange, blue, and white. This set was made by an artisan in Mongolia. They are new and unused.
The Khadag (or Khata) is long piece of fabric mainly given as an offering or gift to show appreciation and respect towards someone in the Buddhist religion. The colors of the khadag are given as gifts to typically represent different meanings but can be used for any purpose you wish. Generally they symbolize good fortune, wealth, prosperity, and peace. They are also used in Mongolia, Tibet, Nepal, Bhutan, Buryat, and other traditionally Buddhist cultures.
In Mongolia they are often tied to rocks, trees, cairns, and temples.
Each scarf is 40 inches long, 14 inches wide and has a fringe on each side. There are various symbols printed on the material. It is made of a thin, silk-like smooth material.
Traditionally this is what the colors symbolize in Mongolia:
White – Symbolizes mothers milk. Something pure and benevolent. Offered to a highly respected elder.
Orange (or Yellow) – Honoring god and religion or science while renouncing evil. Often given to a teacher.
Blue – The color of the eternal blue sky of Mongolia. Symbolizing peace and respect and other given to family – especially siblings. .
Red – A symbol of the fire in a hearth.
Green – Like a fertile field, it is the symbol of abundance
